The CSCP would like to congratulate Dionne Noel as the recipient of the 2021 Lifetime Achievement Award in Cardiovascular Perfusion!
Dionne started her Perfusion career in 1990 at SickKids Hospital in Toronto, already bringing with her a wealth of knowledge and experience as an operating room respiratory therapist and perfusion assistant. She began her influential career as a leader involved in the development of the newly formed pediatric ECMO program, and was a leading member of a team that would establish the first electronic data charting system in North America. Her hard work and dedication turned to education and policy development, both at SickKids and later on at Sunnybrook Hospital, an adult site in Toronto. In 2001, Dionne used her expertise as part of the start-up team for the regional cardiac program at Trilium Health Partners. She was also one of the four pioneers in Canada to design and adopt the mini-extracorporeal circuit now used for all cardiac cases at Trilium Health.
Dionne has used her love for the profession in the community by educating pre-college students at job fairs and Perfusion Week activities throughout her 31 years. She will not only be remembered for her clinical acumen and versatility as an adult and pediatric perfusionist; her colleagues will remember her selfless commitment to the growth of the profession and as the “go-to” person for any help. She continually supported Perfusion students and new staff, saying: "Everyone has a niche that separates them from the rest that should be nurtured in order for the profession to grow and have a positive future."
Congratulations to an inspiring, enthusiastic and committed Perfusionist on an amazing career!
