Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre

Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre is home to Canada’s first and largest regional trauma centre.  It is Canada’s Top 100 Employers situated in a 150-acre park in Canada’s largest city.  The Schulich Heart Centre at SHSC is the fastest growing program in the city that focuses on quality patient care and surgical outcomes.

Our team of 6 perfusionists is involved in 650 cardiac cases and 300 cell saver procedures a year. Our ECLS program was established recently to make the technology and related patient care available for those patients in need.  Other services supported by perfusion at SHSC include LAFA, TAVI, MitraClip, and autotransfusion at the high risk labour and delivery suites.

Our fleet of equipment includes Sorin S5 heart lung machines, Sorin 3T heater-coolers, Spectrum Medical non-invasive diagnostic monitoring system, GEM 4000 blood gas analyzer, Sorin Xtra ATS system, Arrow AutoCAT2 IABP system, Thoratec Centrimag, and the Medistim VeriQ C.

SHSC is an accredited clinical training site affiliated with the Michener Institute in Cardiovascular Perfusion education.
