Health Sciences North

Health Sciences North is an academic health centre located in Greater Sudbury, Ontario.  HSN offers a variety of services and programs to patients from a wide geographic area across northeastern Ontario, including oncology, trauma, and cardiac care. HSN has 17 operating rooms, two of which are designated for cardiac surgery. The perfusion team at HSN consists of five full time perfusionists who provide care and expertise in 450 open-heart surgeries per year, 700 cell salvage procedures, and 350 permanent pacemaker implantations.

As the healthcare hub of the north we were instrumental in the development and ongoing implementation of our ECMO, TAVI, ICD, LVAD programs. Our centre uses the Sorin S5 heart-lung machines, 3T heater coolers, Sorin XTRA cell savers, Gem Premier 4000 blood gas analyzers, Nonin Equanox RSO2 Cerebral Monitor, Cardiohelp ECMO device, Maquet Datascope IABPs, and Abiomed Impellas. The perfusion department is dedicated to providing patients with the highest quality of care.
